Opting for a private car with a chauffeur ensures that your journey across the long stretches of Rajasthan is incredibly comfortable, safe, and entirely flexible. Want to pull over to photograph a herd of wild camels crossing the highway? No problem. Prefer to leave a little later in the morning after a tiring safari? Your driver will wait.

Our English-speaking drivers are familiar with the safest routes, the best roadside restaurants with clean facilities, and the hidden gems along the way. 6 Days Rajasthan Desert Tour Itinerary (Day-by-Day Plan)
This is the ultimate desert circuit. It starts in Jaipur to make flight/train arrivals easy, dives straight into the Thar Desert, and ends in Jodhpur. Because this is a private car tour, the schedule is fully customizable based on your arrival times and personal interests.
-
Day 1
Pickup from Jaipur & Drive to Bikaner (Approx. 330 km / 6 Hours)
Your desert adventure begins! Your private driver will pick you up from the Jaipur Airport, Railway Station, or your hotel. After a quick briefing and loading your luggage, you will hit the highway heading northwest towards the camel city of Bikaner.
The drive takes about 6 hours with a stop for lunch. Upon arriving in Bikaner, check into your hotel. In the late afternoon, your driver will take you to the fascinating Karni Mata Temple in Deshnoke (30 km away). Famous worldwide as the "Rat Temple," it is home to thousands of revered black rats. Return to Bikaner for a relaxed evening.
-
Day 2
Bikaner Sightseeing & Drive to Jaisalmer (Approx. 330 km / 6 Hours)
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and visit the magnificent Junagarh Fort. Unlike other forts in Rajasthan built on high hills, Junagarh was built on the desert plains and has never been conquered. Its interiors feature stunning courtyards and palaces adorned with intricate carvings and mirror work.
Around noon, begin your drive deeper into the Thar Desert toward Jaisalmer. This is a classic desert road trip—expect long, straight roads, arid landscapes, and occasionally crossing paths with sheep herders and camels. You will reach the "Golden City" of Jaisalmer by late afternoon. Check into your hotel and enjoy a quiet evening walking around the local markets.
-
Day 3
Jaisalmer City Tour & Overnight Desert Safari
Today is a day of two halves. Start your morning exploring the incredible Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Quila). Made of golden-yellow sandstone, it is one of the very few living forts in the world, with thousands of people still living inside its ancient walls. Explore the narrow alleys, Jain temples, and the beautifully carved merchant houses, particularly the Patwon Ki Haveli.
In the afternoon (around 3:30 PM), your driver will take you to the Sam Sand Dunes, located 40 km outside the city. Check into your luxury desert camp. As evening approaches, embark on a camel ride across the rolling sand dunes to watch a spectacular desert sunset. Return to the camp for a vibrant cultural evening featuring Rajasthani folk music, the famous Kalbelia dance, and a traditional buffet dinner. Sleep under the stars in your comfortable Swiss tent.
-
Day 4
Jaisalmer to Jodhpur (Approx. 280 km / 5 Hours)
Wake up early to catch the beautiful sunrise over the desert dunes. After a hearty breakfast at the camp, say goodbye to the sand dunes and begin your drive towards Jodhpur, the "Blue City" of Rajasthan.
The drive takes about 5 hours. Upon arrival in Jodhpur, check into your hotel and freshen up. In the late afternoon, your driver will take you to the Mandore Gardens, the ancient capital of the Marwar region before Jodhpur was built. The gardens feature beautiful dark red cenotaphs of Jodhpur's former rulers. Return to your hotel for the night.
-
Day 5
Jodhpur Sightseeing: The Blue City
After breakfast, get ready to visit the crown jewel of Jodhpur: the massive Mehrangarh Fort. Towering 125 meters above the city skyline, this invincible fortress is packed with history, battle scars, and incredibly detailed palaces. The audio guide here is highly recommended. From the top of the fort, enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the blue-painted houses below.
Just a short walk down from the fort is Jaswant Thada, a peaceful, intricately carved white marble cenotaph set beside a small lake. Later in the afternoon, visit the grand Umaid Bhawan Palace. Spend your evening exploring the bustling Sardar Market around the Clock Tower, a great place to buy spices, textiles, and handicrafts.
-
Day 6
Departure from Jodhpur
On your final day, enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your hotel. Depending on the time of your flight or train, you can do some last-minute shopping or enjoy a local Rajasthani thali for lunch.
Your driver will safely drop you off at the Jodhpur Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey, marking the end of a beautiful and adventurous 6-day desert road trip. (Note: If your return flight is from Jaipur, we can customize this itinerary to drive you back to Jaipur on Day 6).

Frequently Asked Questions
1. When is the best time to do a Rajasthan Desert Tour?
The best time to visit the Thar Desert is during the winter season, from October to March. The daytime weather is sunny and pleasant, making fort sightseeing and road travel very comfortable. The nights in the desert can get quite chilly, which is perfect for bonfires at the desert camp. We do not recommend this specific desert circuit during the peak summer months (May and June) as temperatures can exceed 45°C.
2. How long are the drives between cities?
The distances in the desert region are significant. You can expect about 5 to 6 hours of driving on travel days (e.g., Jaipur to Bikaner, or Bikaner to Jaisalmer). However, the roads are mostly straight, well-maintained state highways with very little traffic, making for a smooth and relaxing ride.
3. What is included in the Desert Camp experience?
If you choose to book your desert camp through us (or separately), a standard luxury desert camp package in Jaisalmer includes an overnight stay in a Swiss tent with an attached bathroom, an evening camel safari on the dunes, traditional Rajasthani cultural performances (music and dance), evening snacks, and a buffet dinner and breakfast.
4. Do you book the hotels and desert camps, or do we?
This standard package is for Private Car and Driver Rental Only. This gives you the flexibility to book hotels and camps that fit your own budget and style. However, if you want a complete, hassle-free holiday, just let us know! We can easily upgrade your package to include 3-star, 4-star, or luxury accommodations and the desert camp.
5. Will the driver force us to stop at specific shops?
Absolutely not. We have a strict no-commission policy. Our drivers are there to drive you safely and act as local navigators. They will suggest clean restaurants for lunch on the highway, but you are never obligated to eat or shop anywhere you don't want to.
6. Who pays for the driver’s food and stay?
You don't need to worry about the driver. The tour price includes the driver's daily allowance, which covers his meals and accommodation. He will make his own arrangements while you relax at your hotel or desert camp.
7. Can we customize the start and end points of this tour?
Yes! The itinerary is completely flexible. While this plan starts in Jaipur and ends in Jodhpur, we can easily reverse it (Start in Jodhpur, end in Jaipur), or arrange a round-trip from Jaipur. Just tell us your flight or train details, and we will adjust the route accordingly.
8. What should we pack for the desert?
During the day, wear light, breathable cotton clothes, comfortable walking shoes (for the forts), sunglasses, and a hat. If traveling between November and February, bring warm clothing (jackets, sweaters) for the evenings, as the desert gets surprisingly cold at night, especially at the sand dunes.
What Our Travelers Say
Sarah & John
London, UK"This was our first time in India, and doing a road trip through the desert felt intimidating at first. But our driver, Rakesh, was incredible. He made us feel totally safe, knew where all the clean restrooms were on the highway, and the AC in the car was perfect. The night at the desert camp in Jaisalmer was the highlight of our trip!"
The Gupta Family
Delhi, India"Booked an Innova for a 6-day desert trip from Jaipur to Jaisalmer. Excellent service! The car was in top condition and very spacious for our family of 5. No hidden charges for tolls or parking, which we really appreciated. The driver even helped us negotiate a good price for the camel safari. Highly recommended."
Elena Costa
Barcelona, Spain"I traveled solo and booking a private car was the best decision. The drive from Bikaner to Jaisalmer is long, but it was so beautiful and relaxing. The driver was extremely respectful and gave me plenty of space, but was always there to help with my bags or recommend a safe place to eat. Jodhpur’s fort is mind-blowing!"
Rahul Verma
Bangalore, India"Very professional agency. The itinerary was well-paced, not too rushed. We stayed one night at Sam Sand Dunes and it was a great experience. Having the car with us the whole time meant we didn't have to deal with auto-rickshaws for local sightseeing in Jodhpur. Great value for money."
